Saved Life: Coast to Coast, Day One, Jacksonville Florida

Miles Traveled: 18

Location: Jacksonville, Florida

Well, the day had finally arrived. We launched from the Jacksonville Beach Pier as planned. I rode the eighteen miles to Downtown Jacksonville. Upon arriving Downtown many memories started to come back to me from the days that I spent as a homeless man on these very streets. We drove around searching for a safe place to stop and get some rest. We were turned away from several area missions after asking to sleep in their parking lot. This was after we had explained who we were and what we were doing. They said it was because of policy. Because they could not make the decision themselves without consulting some “higher power”, we were turned away again and again.  We are bringing the message of Christ and we were turned away. What do they do with the homeless they encounter? We ended up sleeping in the trailer in a Church parking lot. Nevetrheless, I slept like a baby, might have been something to do with the 18 miles I had just biked. LOL!

Where has the compassion, caring, and gentle attitude of Christ gone too? This is a question that I am on a quest to find the answer to! We are on our way to a few area Churches that feed and clothe the homeless on Sundays here in Jacksonville. I hope to find some of the compassion, gentleness, and caring attitudes that I would expect to see today. More about this later!

I ask that you get involved somehow, either by supporting Saved Life and our mission or a local area homeless outreach. Get invilved America! These are our citizens out here! Our brothers, our sisters, our friends…help them! Get Involved!

See ya on the road!
